The conveyor passes through a concrete cell with walls 2 meters thick, inside of which is Cobalt 60 (a radioactive source) whose activity produces radiation for a limited duration. For optimal safety, Cobalt 60 is sealed in a double-layer stainless steel container and suspended above a water pool. When in “rest” mode, the cobalt is submerged in 7 to 8 meters of water to contain the radiation.<\/p>\n
