Ethylene oxide (EtO) gas is considered an alkylating agent, meaning it works by damaging the replication capability of microorganisms present on the surface and inside the products.<\/p>\n
The treatment occurs in a vacuum chamber after preconditioning the products, which are sterilized in their final packaging. One of the only prerequisites is that part of the packaging must be permeable to air so that the gas can penetrate and sterilize all accessible areas.<\/p>\n
To ensure a customized sterilization process, IONISOS determines the parameters of the EtO sterilization cycle based on your products’ characteristics, whether it’s their composition or density. There are five different criteria: gas concentration, humidity, temperature, pressure, and exposure duration to the gas.<\/p>\n
During preconditioning, the products are preheated and humidified to ensure uniform treatment, regardless of storage conditions.<\/p>\n
Once sterilization is complete, a degassing phase using vacuum and rinsing in the chamber is necessary to eliminate residual ethylene oxide still present.<\/p>\n
